Weil die Motorenhersteller immer mehr zum Bau kleinerer Motoren tendieren, wird mehr giftiges Gas freigesetzt. Laut Forschern aus dem Fachbereich Maschinenbau der Technischen Universit\u00e4t Darmstadt f\u00fchrt dieses Downsizing zu einem verst\u00e4rkten Auftreten von Kohlenmonoxid zur\u00fcck.<\/p>\n<p>&#8222;Dort ist es k\u00fchler als im Inneren des Zylinders, daher laufen gekoppelte Reaktions-Transport-Prozesse an den W\u00e4nden anders ab. Eine derart hohe Kohlenmonoxid-Konzentration in Wandn\u00e4he hatten wir aber nicht erwartet&#8220;, sagt Sebastian B\u00fcrkle, Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer vom Sonderforschungsbereich Transregio 150.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simulationen am Computer wichtig<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Da Flamme-Wand-Interaktionen in kleineren Motoren ausgepr\u00e4gter sind, ist das Problem an den W\u00e4nden gravierender als in Maschinen mit gr\u00f6sserem Hubraum. Die Ursache der hohen Kohlenmonoxid-Werte hat das Ph\u00e4nomen auch nicht zuletzt mittels Simulation am Computer aufgedeckt. &#8222;Unsere Berechnungen zeigen, dass das Kohlenmonoxid nicht in Wandn\u00e4he entsteht, sondern sich str\u00f6mungsbedingt dort anreichert&#8220;, so Co-Autor Guido K\u00fcnne.<\/p>\n<p>Die Ergebnisse sind nicht nur f\u00fcr Autobauer relevant, sondern auch f\u00fcr Konstrukteure von Flugzeugtriebwerken. Eine neue Technik, die sogenannte Lean-Burn-Verbrennung, senkt zwar den Stickoxid-Ausstoss des Luftverkehrs.
