(Bild: www.obrist.at)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201eUnser Modern Forest funktioniert bei der Reduzierung des CO2-Gehalts in der Luft bis zu 30-mal effektiver als der normale Wald\u201c, sagt der Erfinder und Unternehmer Frank Obrist. Die von ihm gegr\u00fcndete gleichnamige Industriegruppe hat ein ausgekl\u00fcgeltes Verfahren entwickelt, um der Atmosph\u00e4re Kohlendioxid (CO2) zu entziehen. Gleichzeitig produziert sie den nachhaltigen Energietr\u00e4ger Methanol und gewinnt elementaren Kohlenstoff, der gelagert oder weiterverarbeitet werden kann.<\/p>\n<p>Thorsten Rixmann, Chief Marketing Officer der Obrist Group, erkl\u00e4rt das Konzept: \u201eWie ein nat\u00fcrlicher Wald entzieht der Modern Forest der Atmosph\u00e4re CO2 und erzeugt Sauerstoff. Im Unterschied zur Photosynthese von B\u00e4umen generiert der synthetische Wald jedoch keinen Zucker als Nahrungsmittel f\u00fcr die Pflanzen, sondern fl\u00fcssiges Methanol \u2013 wir sprechen hier von aFuel (atmospheric fuel) -, das als universeller Kraftstoff in der Industrie, zur W\u00e4rmeerzeugung und im Verkehr nutzbar ist.\u201c Die CO2-Gewinnung erfolgt mit Hilfe eines von der Obrist Group entwickelten und patentierten Direct-Air-Capture-Verfahrens (DAC). Mit 1,38 Kilogramm CO2, das aus der Luft geholt wird, lassen sich bis zu einem Kilogramm Methanol erzeugen, teilt das Unternehmen mit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Der Clou:<\/strong> Der synthetische Wald arbeitet genau in den Regionen der Welt am besten, in denen eine Aufforstung mit B\u00e4umen chancenlos ist \u2013 auf \u00d6dland und in W\u00fcsten. Damit die Produktion von Methanol und Kohlenstoff nachhaltig funktioniert, wird n\u00e4mlich Sonnenenergie im \u00dcberfluss ben\u00f6tigt. W\u00e4hrend ein echter Wald am besten in gem\u00e4ssigten Klimazonen w\u00e4chst, kann der Modern Forest nur im Sonneng\u00fcrtel der Erde gedeihen. Beiden \u201eWaldformen\u201c ist gemeinsam, dass sie der Atmosph\u00e4re grosse Mengen an Kohlendioxid entziehen und damit der Erderw\u00e4rmung und dem Klimawandel entgegenwirken, betont die Obrist Group.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Gigaplant: CO2-Staubsauger, der Methanol und Kohlenstoff produziert<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Die deutsch-\u00f6sterreichische Industriegruppe hat das Konzept sogenannter Gigaplants entworfen, die gleichzeitig Methanol herstellen, elementaren Kohlenstoff erzeugen und als \u201eCO2-Staubsauger\u201c fungieren. Eine einzige Gigaplant soll knapp vier Millionen Tonnen Methanol im Jahr produzieren, fast 230.000 Tonnen Kohlenstoff generieren und die Atmosph\u00e4re von \u00fcber 6,2 Millionen Tonnen CO2 befreien. Die ben\u00f6tigte Grundfl\u00e4che bel\u00e4uft sich auf rund 280 Quadratkilometer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zum Vergleich: <\/strong>Ein gleichgrosser nat\u00fcrlicher Wald entzieht der Luft weniger als eine halbe Million Tonnen CO2 im Jahr. Frank Obrist stellt klar: \u201eDer Modern Forest soll nat\u00fcrlich keine W\u00e4lder ersetzen, sondern ansonsten nicht brauchbare Brachfl\u00e4chen und W\u00fcstenregionen doppelt nutzbar machen: f\u00fcr die globale Energieversorgung zu unschlagbar niedrigen Kosten und f\u00fcr das Klima mit einem deutlich besseren Wirkungsgrad als jede Anpflanzung.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Eine Schl\u00fcsselkomponente des Modern Forest stellt ein spezielles von der Industriegruppe entwickeltes und mit mehreren Patenten gesch\u00fctztes Direct-Air-Capture-Verfahren (DAC) dar. Dr. Johannes Prock, Chief Technologie Officer der Obrist Group, erkl\u00e4rt den industriellen Prozess mit anschaulichen Vergleichen: \u201eWir setzen Natronlauge ein, wie sie in verd\u00fcnnter Form auch beim Brezelbacken Verwendung findet, weil diese CO2 besonders leicht bindet. So wird das Kohlendioxid aus der Luft herausgeholt. Dabei entsteht Natriumcarbonat, wie es auch in Waschpulver vorhanden ist. Im n\u00e4chsten Schritt erfolgt die Umwandlung zu Natriumhydrogencarbonat, dem Hauptbestandteil von Backpulver. Und genau wie dieses beginnt die Zersetzung in trockener Form bei relativ niedrigen Temperaturen, die mit Abw\u00e4rme erreicht werden k\u00f6nnen.\u201c Dieses besondere DAC-Verfahren hat gegen\u00fcber anderen Methoden zur CO2-Bindung nach Darstellung der Obrist Group den Vorteil, dass es mit sehr wenig Wasser auskommt und somit auch in W\u00fcsten funktioniert, wo die Luftfeuchtigkeit h\u00e4ufig nur zehn Prozent betr\u00e4gt.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Due Diligence best\u00e4tigt Machbarkeit<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Das Ingenieur- und Beratungsunternehmen ILF Consulting Engineers, die Patent- und Rechtsanwaltskanzlei ETL-IP und die Wirtschaftspr\u00fcfungsgesellschaft BDO haben erst k\u00fcrzlich im Rahmen einer umfassende Due Diligence die technische und wirtschaftliche Machbarkeit der Gigaplants und des Modern Forest best\u00e4tigt. Interessierte Investoren und Regierungsstellen k\u00f6nnen den Due-Diligence Report bei der Industriegruppe anfordern.<\/p>\n<p>W\u00fcrde man demnach rund zwei Prozent der weltweiten W\u00fcstenfl\u00e4che, die mit 36 Millionen Quadratkilometern veranschlagt wird, mit synthetischen W\u00e4ldern versehen \u2013 das entspricht 2.700 Gigaplants \u2013, k\u00f6nnte der weltweite Energiebedarf vollst\u00e4ndig mit aFuel abgedeckt und fossile Brennstoffe zur G\u00e4nze durch gr\u00fcnes Methanol ersetzt werden. Zudem liesse sich durch den Betrieb dieser Anlagen der CO2-Gehalt in der Atmosph\u00e4re wieder auf den des Jahres 1950 reduzieren. Damals betrug der CO2-Anteil in der Luft etwa 290 ppm (Parts per Million), 2023 wurden 420 ppm gemessen. Den Peak erwartet Vision\u00e4r Frank Obrist wie viele Wissenschaftler um das Jahr 2050 herum bei etwa 450 ppm.
