Kunststoff-Erzeugnisse auf Basis von Nussschalen oder Kaffeesatz? Das geht \u2013 dank der Technologie von FluidSolids AG. Hinter diesem noch jungen Unternehmen stehen Beat Karrer und sein Team. Ihnen ist es gelungen, Biocomposite aus biologischen Abf\u00e4llen sowie Reststoffen zu produzieren. Dies bedeutet eine innovative L\u00f6sung f\u00fcr die Kreislaufwirtschaft.<\/p>\n

\u00d6konomie mit \u00d6kologie verbinden<\/h2>\n

Begonnen hat der Industriedesigner Beat Karrer vor etwas mehr als zehn Jahren. \u00abAls Industriedesigner pr\u00f6beln und t\u00fcfteln wir regelm\u00e4ssig mit neuen Materialien. Damals suchten wir alternative Rohstoffe f\u00fcr Kunststoffe, die wir anstelle von erd\u00f6lbasierten Materialien verwenden konnten. Eine L\u00f6sung fanden wir dabei in zellulosehaltigen Stoffen\u00bb, erz\u00e4hlt Beat Karrer. In einem Design- Workshop wurde an ersten Rezepturen get\u00fcftelt. Diese wurden dann im Designstudio optimiert, sodass schnell erste Prototypen, etwa Schalen oder sogar ein Hocker, erfolgreich hergestellt werden konnten. 2011 erfolgte die Anmeldung zum Patent. \u00abDann wurde es ernst mit dem Gesch\u00e4ftsmodell\u00bb, erinnert sich Karrer. Mit der Hochschule Rapperswil wurde ein von der KTI gef\u00f6rdertes Projekt umgesetzt, an verschiedenen Innovationswettbewerben teilgenommen, auch eine Einladung aus den USA folgte. Dies alles f\u00fchrte schliesslich zu einem verst\u00e4rkten Interesse aus der Industrie. \u00abDas \u2039Goldene\u203a an unserer Idee ist wohl die erfolgreiche Verkn\u00fcpfung von Nachhaltigkeit mit wirtschaftlicher Umsetzbarkeit\u00bb, so die Einsch\u00e4tzung von Beat Karrer. \u00abEine L\u00f6sung ist erst dann wirklich nachhaltig, wenn sie \u00f6konomisch genauso \u00fcberzeugt wie \u00f6kologisch.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Neue Kunststoff-Erzeugnisse aus Reststoffen<\/h2>\n

Das Endprodukt sind sog. Biokomposite, also Verbundwerkstoffe, bestehend aus einer nat\u00fcrlichen Polymer-Matrix, in die Fasern und Additive eingearbeitet sind. Die Fasern k\u00f6nnen von Abfallstoffen wie z.B. Nussschalen, Maiskolben, Holzsp\u00e4nen, Baumwollfasern usw. stammen. Durch entsprechende Prozesstechnik k\u00f6nnen Reststoffe statt entsorgt wieder in einen wertsch\u00f6pfenden Kreislauf gebracht werden. Die mit der Technik von FluidSolids hergestellten Biokomposite lassen sich dann durch konventionelle Verfahren wie Spritzguss oder Extrusion zu verschiedenen Kunststoffendprodukten verarbeiten. \u00abVerbreitet ist unsere Technologie inzwischen im Fashion-Bereich: Bereits werden von einigen Bekleidungsherstellern Reststoffe durch unser Verfahren z.B. zu Kleiderb\u00fcgeln oder Verpackungsmaterialien verarbeitet \u00bb, erl\u00e4utert Beat Karrer.<\/p>\n

Grosses Interesse der Industrie<\/h2>\n

Die FluidSolids AG betreibt einerseits eigene Anlagen f\u00fcr die Herstellung von Biokompositen. Anderseits sieht sich das Unternehmen als Technologielieferant. Im Fokus als Kunden stehen dabei bedeutende Markenartikler aus unterschiedlichen Branchen, welche ihre Reststoffe so verwerten und dabei herk\u00f6mmliche Kunststoffe durch biologisch abbaubare ersetzen k\u00f6nnen. \u00abWir wollen Kunststoffe an sich nicht verteufeln\u00bb, pr\u00e4zisiert Beat Karrer. \u00abViel mehr geht es uns darum, Biokomposite insbesondere bei Single-Use-Produkten verst\u00e4rkt einzusetzen.\u00bb Denn die eigentliche Problematik von petrochemischen Kunststoffen bestehe im Einsatz bei kurzlebigen Produkten wie etwa Plastiks\u00e4cken.<\/p>\n

Innovationsf\u00f6rderung gut, aber…<\/h2>\n

F\u00fcr ihren Beitrag zur Reduktion der Umweltbelastung durch biologisch abbaubare Kunststoffe und f\u00fcr die F\u00f6rderung der Kreislaufwirtschaft erhielt die FluidSolids AG am 18. November 2020 den Golden Idea Award der IDEE-SUISSE. Und auch bei Investoren fand die Idee Anklang. Drei Finanzierungsrunden konnten erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden. Beat Karrer konstatiert: \u00abDie Innovationsf\u00f6rderung in der Schweiz funktioniert sehr gut. Doch schwieriger wird es bei der Finanzierung f\u00fcr die Weiterentwicklung zur Marktreife.\u00bb Er bedauert, dass manches Start-up deshalb ins Ausland ausweicht und damit einen \u2013 eigentlich unerzwungenen \u2013 Technologieexport betreibt. Umso mehr sch\u00e4tzt Karrer die Auszeichnung als Anerkennung und Wertsch\u00e4tzung der jahrelangen Arbeit. Als n\u00e4chste Ziele stehen die weitere Konsolidierung, ein personeller Ausbau der F&E-Abteilung sowie das Gewinnen neuer Kunden auf der Agenda.<\/p>\n
