New orientation of the HWZ University of Applied Sciences

The HWZ Zurich University of Applied Sciences is realigning its organization and thus driving forward its further development in a targeted manner. At the heart of this transformation are the new, expanded Executive Board and the realignment of the departments as agile, networked ecosystems.

With the newly created extended Executive Board, the HWZ Zurich University of Applied Sciences is establishing a cross-divisional body that is responsible for the strategic development of the university. The diverse team combines central functions, including teaching, administration, research and communication, and paves the way for the future of the HWZ University of Applied Sciences. Prof. Dr. Brian Rüeger, Rector of the HWZ, emphasizes the importance of the new structure: "With the expanded Executive Board, we are setting the strategic course for the future of the HWZ. It combines central competencies, networks perspectives and, thanks to its diverse and balanced composition, creates the basis for the sustainable further development of our university in a dynamic educational environment."

School management focuses on the operational business

The existing school management is part of the extended school management. In addition, the Executive Board continues to be responsible for day-to-day operations and ensures the implementation of university operations. It is made up of Prof. Dr. Brian Rüeger, Rector, Peter Statz, Head of the Department of Management & Leadership and Deputy Rector, Dr. Urs Jäckli, Head of the Department of Education, and Christian Müller, Head of Finance. A new member is Prof. Dr. Michael Klaas, who has been helping to shape the strategic development of the HWZ as Head of Business Development since May. The new structure of operational and strategic management creates a clear separation of tasks, shortens decision-making paths and creates room for innovation.

Departments develop into networked ecosystems

As part of the realignment, the departments are playing a key role in the transformation of the HWZ: they are evolving from traditional specialist units into dynamic, networked ecosystems that work across departments and actively contribute to the university's profile. The focus is on increased cooperation - both within the HWZ and with external partners from science, business and society. The departments are responsible for the ongoing development of existing and new continuing education programs. At the same time, they expand strategic collaborations and networks in a targeted manner. In addition, they sharpen and expand the research portfolio, promote the acquisition of third-party funding and play a decisive role in shaping the further development of education as a source of inspiration.
