Like as early as 2024 Locher Brewery is one of the winners of the World Beer Awards, which were presented in London this year. In the top category of the competition, the Locher brewery won two gold medals as Country Winner Switzerland with Appenzeller Bier: Schwarzer Kristall (Dark Lager) and BrandLöscher (Vienna) impressed the international jury of experts across the board and secured the top award for Switzerland. The IPA (American Style) and the fruity-sour Vintage Sour Beer (Framboise) were awarded silver in the national ranking. Bronze went to the Gran Alpin Lager (Helles/Münchner) and the refreshing Bschorle (Flavored).

The Locher Craft line also shone with outstanding results. The Hazy Climber (Milkshake IPA/New England IPA), the Mountain Ale (American Style Pale Ale) and the Fruity Cave (Kriek) were awarded silver. Bronze went to the non-alcoholic Freefall (NO & Low Alcohol) and the Misty Cave (Pale).

Best non-alcoholic beer in Switzerland

An excellent beer can also do without alcohol. This is demonstrated by Quöllfrisch Alkoholfrei, first presented by Appenzeller Brauerei Locher in April 2024. This beer was also awarded gold at the prestigious World Beer Awards 2025 and honored as Country Winner in the No & Low Alcohol Lager category. The traditional Quöllfrisch hell also won silver this year.

Versatile brewery

This once again confirms the Appenzell-based brewery's versatility, from classic lagers to innovative craft creations, and underlines its leading position in the Swiss beer landscape. "Our numerous awards at the World Beer Awards 2025 show that we are making brewing history with passion, creativity and the highest quality. Whether classic or experimental - Appenzeller Bier and our Locher Craft line are firmly established worldwide," says Aurèle Meyer, Managing Director of Locher Brewery.

The Chopfab Boxer Brewery in Winterthur/Yverdon-les-Bains, which belongs to the Locher brewery but remains independent, can also look forward to receiving awards: the Boxer Blonde was named Country Winner in the Lager, Helles category. The Boxer Pale Ale also received silver in the Pale Beer, English Style category.
