foodward Foundation and HWZ launch joint CAS
The HWZ Zurich University of Applied Sciences is launching the CAS Lean Management & Innovation in Food Service & Supply Chains together with the foodward foundation. The aim of the course is to strengthen professionalization and innovation in the dynamic food service market and thus provide urgently needed specialists and managers with specific qualifications for this sector.

With this new partnership, the HWZ Zurich University of Applied Sciences is tapping into a new subject area in order to meet the growing demand for qualified specialists. Together with foodward, which is driving a sustainable transformation in the food sector, the HWZ is involved in a market that is facing profound changes: A shortage of skilled workers, increasing pressure for efficiency and increasingly complex value chains require new skills, particularly at the interface of foodservice, logistics and industry. As part of this partnership, the CAS Lean Management & Innovation in Food Service & Supply Chains is being launched.
Building expertise along the value chain
"With the CAS Lean Management & Innovation in Food Service & Supply Chains, we are creating practical perspectives for managers in an industry in transition," says Dr. Linard Barth, Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Academy at the HWZ. "Our focus is on innovative solutions that reconcile efficiency and individuality."
The training program is aimed at specialists and managers in the restaurant, catering, supply and logistics industries. It provides tools and impulses to systematically develop efficiency, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking in a practical, interdisciplinary and future-oriented manner.
"The increasing need to systematize the food service market can only be successful in the long term if the upstream supply chain partners and employees are involved and motivated," says Thomas Bratschi, founder of foodward. "With this CAS, the HWZ is supporting the desired transformation - together with experts from the extended university environment and foodward's industry knowledge and network."
Three modules, one goal: future-proof food service expertise
The CAS Lean Management & Innovation in Food Service & Supply Chains is divided into three modules: Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Food Services, Concept Design in Food Service Value Chains as well as Lean Management and Human Responsibility in Food Service. The start is planned for February 2026. The CAS can be credited to the MAS Excellence in Food, which is supported by the ZHAW and BFH.
