Rentokil Switzerland has acquired Hydroplant, headquartered in Zurich, as of March 31, 2026. With this step, the company is expanding its business activities in Switzerland to include indoor and workplace greening.

Pioneer of indoor greening joins the Rentokil family

Since its foundation in 1972, Hydroplant has developed from a pioneer in hydroponics to one of the leading specialists for modern greening concepts in Switzerland. The team of around 50 «green architects», planners and gardeners realizes tailor-made solutions for offices, public buildings and private properties throughout Switzerland. The portfolio covers the entire spectrum from vertical gardens and living facades to specially designed plant furniture. A special feature of the company is its claim to create a sustainable feel-good atmosphere in the client's premises with its greening concepts.

For Rentokil Initial, the acquisition represents an ideal expansion of its existing business activities in the area of hygiene and wellbeing. Hydroplant's green expertise will be continued under the Ambius brand, the part of the Rentokil Group that specializes in indoor greenery.

Strategic step for the «healthy office» of the future

Marco Zappulli, Managing Director of Rentokil Switzerland, sees the transaction as an important milestone: «Hydroplant is the perfect partner for us to fulfill our promise in Switzerland even more holistically: We want to protect people, improve lives and preserve our planet. Hydroplant's green expertise, together with our Ambius brand, ideally complements our services, as plants not only promote well-being and health in indoor spaces, but also make an active contribution to sustainable architecture. We are delighted that Hydroplant is now part of the Rentokil Initial family.»

Moritz Küderli, who has led the company as CEO and owner for over three decades, is confident about the change of ownership: «After more than thirty years at Hydroplant - as CEO and owner - the time has come for me to hand the company over to new hands. In Ambius, part of the Rentokil Group, I have found a partner who will continue what has been tried and tested and at the same time open up new perspectives for the future. I am convinced that this is the right step for the sustainable further development of Hydroplant. I sincerely wish the new crew much success, joy and exciting years ahead.»

Hygiene expertise meets biophilic design

Rentokil Initial is the leading expert for professional services in the areas of washroom hygiene, scenting solutions and pest prevention. The combination of this hygiene expertise with Hydroplant's interior greening creates a complete offering for modern working environments that is unique in Switzerland. Plants not only contribute to the well-being of employees, but are also increasingly recognized as an element of sustainable interior design - an aspect that is gaining in importance in the context of the growing interest in healthy and sustainable office environments.
