What began in 1951 with entrepreneurial courage and vision is now an established Swiss pharmaceutical and life science company. Biomed is celebrating its 75th anniversary - and is deeply rooted in the Swiss healthcare market as an independent family business.
Pioneering spirit in the post-war period
Biomed was founded in extraordinary times: After the Second World War, import restrictions made access to medicines from abroad difficult. Dr. Felix Tschudi - still a law student at the time - and pharmacist Albert Kupfer recognized early on the potential of a partnership with the family-run German pharmaceutical company Madaus, with whose owner family they had close ties. This pioneering spirit laid the foundations for a company that has been dedicated to providing access to effective healthcare solutions ever since.
Bridge between international manufacturers and the Swiss market
Today, Biomed is a pharmaceutical and life science trading company based in Dübendorf (ZH). The focus is on the import, authorization and distribution of prescription and over-the-counter medicines. The company also develops health products for the Swiss market. The portfolio ranges from minerals and vitamins to respiratory medicines and solutions for weight control and metabolic health. With products such as Magnesium Biomed, Parapic and Sinupret extract, Biomed is now present in almost every Swiss household.
Biomed sees itself as a reliable bridge between manufacturers and the Swiss market. With a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, market mechanisms and medical practice, the company ensures that doctors, pharmacies and drugstores receive precise, well-founded and practical product information.

SMEs with attitude and market proximity
With around 60 employees in the areas of regulatory affairs, administration, marketing and sales, Biomed is deliberately set up as an agile SME. The company does not conduct its own research, but works closely with partners in this area to develop innovative healthcare solutions. Its strength lies in the combination of many years of experience, market proximity and personal relationships.
Thomas Wirth, CEO of Biomed, sums up the company's philosophy: «Values have always been more important to us than short-term profit. Of course, growth and profitability are essential for a company. But not at any price. Developing a good corporate strategy means thinking ahead and aligning the organization today with the requirements of tomorrow. We want to continue to be a company that grows sustainably in the future and consciously sets priorities.»
Values that last for generations
Biomed is still wholly owned by the Tschudi family today. This continuity characterizes the corporate culture and the long-term view of the company's development. As a family business, Biomed has always thought in terms of generations rather than quarters. The reorientation in the 1990s, after the pharmaceutical company Madaus was sold and the cooperation was suspended by the new owners, marked an important milestone for today's positioning.

Franziska Tschudi Sauber, daughter of Dr. Felix Tschudi and member of the Board of Directors, sums up their commitment: «As a company, Biomed supports people in Switzerland in their everyday lives and helps them to stay healthy with carefully developed products.» Her brother Daniel Tschudi, also a member of the Board of Directors, adds: «With entrepreneurial vision, innovative spirit and the courage to try new things, our family and our employees want to continue to lead Biomed successfully into the future thanks to relevant products and strengthen the Biomed family in the long term.»
Future with a focus on prevention and metabolic health
With targeted investments in the areas of prevention and metabolic health, Biomed aims to remain a reliable healthcare partner for people in Switzerland. With the new Biomed Evida product line, the company is increasingly focusing on the topic of metabolic health. The new range includes meal replacement products with a high protein content in four flavors, other products for weight regulation and diet support as well as dietary fibers and products for blood sugar regulation. Further products are in the pipeline. This strategic orientation is based on a clear conviction: Long-term health and healthy ageing are based on a healthy lifestyle with targeted support.
After 75 years, Biomed remains a company with clear priorities: sustainable growth, long-term partnerships and a responsible contribution to healthcare in Switzerland.
