Hostpoint launches «File Express» - the Swiss alternative to WeTransfer

Whether contracts, floor plans or vacation photos - the digital exchange of files has become an integral part of everyday professional and private life. However, email attachments and traditional cloud solutions quickly reach their limits, especially when it comes to large volumes of data. A representative survey by the opinion research institute intervista shows that around two thirds of the Swiss population already use file-sharing platforms - and the need for more secure, better manageable services is growing.

Focus on security and Swiss data location

The intervista study commissioned by Hostpoint (March 2026, n=1,006 people, representative of German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland, aged 15-79) shows a clear picture: almost two thirds of respondents use file transfer services at least occasionally for private use. A pronounced age effect is noticeable here - the younger the users, the more frequently such platforms are used. Daily or weekly use is highest among 30 to 44-year-olds, while it decreases significantly with increasing age.

The results are even clearer when it comes to data security: for 78% of respondents, it is «important» or «somewhat important» that their data is stored in Switzerland. This need increases with age - among 60- to 79-year-olds, 85% consider the Swiss data location to be important or somewhat important. The willingness to pay is correspondingly high: 41% of respondents would pay for a Swiss data storage location, 39% for end-to-end encryption. The most common reason for use is sharing photos and videos (63%), followed by sending files that are too large for email attachments (61%).

File Express: Simple, secure and complete in Switzerland

In response to these needs, Hostpoint is launching File Express a new file transfer platform that is operated entirely via Swiss servers. The platform is aimed at both private individuals and companies from a wide range of industries.

Even without registration, files of all kinds can be sent free of charge - up to 5 GB per transfer, with an availability of seven days. Those who register for free benefit from extended functions: Files can not only be sent, but also requested. There is also comprehensive transfer management with notifications for uploads and downloads, password protection and contact and group management. With a free account, you can send up to 50 GB of files and carry out up to 100 transfers per month - all data remains in Switzerland.

For more demanding users, there is a choice of paid subscription models: The «Plus» (CHF 9 per month) and «Pro» (CHF 15 per month) offers include transfers of up to 200 and 500 GB respectively, up to 2 TB of storage space, unlimited transfers and additional functions such as end-to-end encryption and geoblocking. The availability of the transfers is 180 or 365 days, depending on the subscription.

Wide range of applications for companies and private individuals

File Express is aimed at a broad spectrum of users. The platform is ideal for private individuals who want to share wedding photos, vacation videos or files for family members and friends. File Express offers suitable subscription models for architecture firms that share construction plans and CAD files, for photographers and multimedia producers with large amounts of data, for agencies with many customer projects and for law firms that need to transmit confidential documents securely. Functions such as end-to-end encryption, geoblocking and the Swiss server location play a key role, especially for industries with high data protection and compliance requirements - such as law firms, trustees or software companies.

Proven basis, newly developed

File Express is based on an existing software solution from Hostpoint subsidiary Swiss Cyber Gate, which has specialized in secure and traceable data transfer for business customers since 2015 and has been fully owned by Hostpoint since 2022. The application was further developed with Hostpoint's expertise into a completely new web app with an extended range of functions and a modern user interface.
