Suva achieves result of CHF 308 million and keeps premiums stable in 2027
Suva achieved an annual result of CHF 308 million in 2025. Thanks to solid insurance business and a good investment result, premiums will remain stable at a historically low level in 2027, and insured persons will be relieved of around CHF 709 million.
Suva achieved an annual result of CHF 308 million in the 2025 financial year and intends to ease the burden on insured persons again in the 2027 premium year: the refund of capital gains surpluses amounting to 20 percent of net premiums will be continued, while premiums will remain stable overall at a historically low level. This is according to the recently published annual report of Switzerland's largest insurance company.
Solid financing and high returns
According to Suva, all classes of insurance are solidly financed. The solvency ratio remains at 190 percent, which is well above the statutory minimum requirement of 100 percent. The earmarked assets cover, among other things, the obligations for around 73,000 current pensions as well as future benefits from accidents and occupational illnesses that have already occurred.
The 2025 investment year also contributed to the positive result: Suva achieved a return of 4.3 percent on its broadly diversified assets, which was above the ten-year average of 3.4 percent. For the insured persons, the agreed profit participation in 2027 means a relief of around CHF 709 million.
Fewer occupational accidents, but more leisure accidents - premiums fall
The accident figures show a mixed picture: the number of occupational accidents and occupational illnesses fell by 0.9% to around 166,000 cases in 2025, while non-occupational accidents increased by 2.8% to around 296,000 cases. Over the past ten years, however, the risk of accidents in the workplace has fallen by 13 percent, Suva reported.
There will also be slight adjustments to premiums: In occupational accident insurance, average gross premiums will fall by 0.8 percent, in non-occupational accident insurance by 0.7 percent. Overall, the average premium burden thus remains at the historic low of the previous year, according to Suva.
Suva also emphasizes the importance of rehabilitation and reintegration. In addition to medical care, the social environment and the rehabilitation clinics in Bellikon and Sion also played an important role.
