HSLU Launches New Bachelor's Degree in Business Law & LegalTech
The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is responding to the growing demand for professionals who combine law, technology, and management. Starting in the fall of 2027, it will offer a new bachelor’s degree program in Business Law & LegalTech—the first of its kind in Switzerland. Digital skills are an integral part of the program from the very beginning.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly taking over routine tasks in the legal industry—from contract review to legal research. At the same time, companies are seeing a growing need for professionals who can combine law, technology, and management. With its new bachelor’s degree program in Business Law & LegalTech, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) is responding to this shift and setting a new standard throughout Switzerland.
Digital Skills as an Integral Part
Digitalization is fundamentally changing the work of lawyers. Artificial intelligence is already being used today to assist with contract analysis, research, and document drafting. As a result, the requirements for professionals are shifting: It is no longer enough to have legal knowledge alone; an understanding of digital technologies and business contexts is also required.
At its meeting on May 13, 2026, the Council of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts approved the introduction of the Bachelor’s program in Business Law & LegalTech at the Department of Economics in Lucerne, to begin in the fall of 2027. The program was designed from the ground up and thus differs from other bachelor’s programs in business law. Digital skills are considered an integral part of the program—not merely an optional academic supplement.
Program Director Prof. Dr. Christoph Hauser sums up the program’s goal: «You’ll bridge the gap between law, technology, and management. You’ll understand the possibilities and limitations of AI and will be able to help shape its use in companies.»
A Wide Range of Career Paths and Flexible Study Options
Future graduates have a wide range of opportunities in the legal, tax, HR, or compliance departments of companies, banks, insurance firms, and government agencies. As Legal Operations Managers, they optimize and digitize workflows in legal departments, while as Digital Risk & Privacy Specialists, they ensure that new AI tools are implemented in compliance with data protection regulations. In consulting, they assist companies in implementing complex regulatory requirements or, as project managers, actively shape the digital transformation of public administration.
From the very beginning, the program combines the fundamentals of business law with LegalTech in management and real-world business law cases. It is supplemented by business administration, economics, financial management, and methodology modules; the program culminates in a bachelor’s practicum project. A flexible, modular system of minors and majors allows students to tailor their program to focus on topics such as tax law, international business law, labor and social security law, or RegTech and public governance. The Bachelor’s in Business Law & LegalTech can be completed full-time or part-time while working. Semesters abroad are also possible.
