The University Council of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW has approved the two new Master's degree programs Master of Science in Finance and Master of Science in Strategic Management and Leadership in 2025. The start is planned for fall 2026. The two courses are intended to be an important addition to the FHNW School of Business portfolio.

Master of Science in Strategic Management and Leadership

The new Master of Science in Strategic Management and Leadership places a clear focus on strategic management and leadership throughout the curriculum. The content is structured in two stages:

  • In the compulsory modules, students deepen their scientific knowledge of strategic management, leadership and research methods.
  • In the specialization phase, knowledge and skills are further deepened and applied within the framework of the major, compulsory elective modules and the Master's thesis.

The majors offered are "Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation" and "Strategic Decision Making using Data Science". A high degree of interdisciplinarity is sought through cooperation with other universities. The degree program is offered in Olten in German and lasts 4 semesters in part-time mode.

Master of Science in Finance

The content of this Master's program covers four key areas of expertise: Financial Markets, Financial Management, Methods & Ethics, Hands-on Skills. The highlight of the program is participation in the CFA Institute Research Challenge, which takes the place of a Master's thesis. The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual national and global competition: students gain practical experience by taking on the role of an analyst. They receive valuable practical support and undergo intensive training in financial analysis and financial ethics.

The course is offered in Basel at the FHNW Campus Dreispitz in English and lasts 3 semesters as Fast Track+ or 5 semesters in part-time mode.
