SwissSkills 2029: St.Gallen is the venue

Last week, the SwissSkills Foundation Board decided on the venue for the 2029 National Skills Championships. These will be held in St. Gallen for the first time in four years' time. The decision was preceded by a bidding process.

The Foundation Board has decided: SwissSkills 2029 will be held in St. Gallen. It is now clear where the best young professional talents in Switzerland will compete in four years' time and celebrate the diversity and strength of Swiss vocational education and training together with over one hundred thousand visitors. Following a broadly supported bidding process, the decision was made in favor of Eastern Switzerland. In its comments, the Board of Trustees praised the great commitment of all bidding locations and the high-quality dossiers, which once again impressively underlined the importance of vocational education and training throughout Switzerland.

Strong visitor potential in Eastern Switzerland

With the selection of St. Gallen, SwissSkills 2029 will take place in a region with strong visitor potential. The location impressed with an innovative dossier, strong support from the eight eastern Swiss cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein, and good accessibility - both for the large conurbations of German-speaking Switzerland and for visitors from Ticino. Together with the event in Geneva, the two peripheral locations enable a large number of young people to attend one of the two events with a short journey.

EuroSkills will also be held in Switzerland in 2029

In combination with EuroSkills 2029 in Geneva, this will create a strong duo that will further strengthen the visibility and importance of the Swiss vocational education and training system. Christian Schäli, President of the SwissSkills Foundation Board: «We are very much looking forward to working with St. Gallen and to the challenge of organizing two major events for vocational education and training in 2029. Together, we are creating a national and international stage for our young professional talents.» In the coming months, the Board of Trustees will also discuss the location strategy after 2029.
