The Swiss Science Center Technorama and Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) are entering into a long-term partnership. Starting in 2029, ZKB will become Technorama’s main partner. At the heart of this collaboration is the “Technorama 2050” project—a comprehensive renovation and expansion of Technorama for future generations.

Through this partnership, two institutions that shape the Canton of Zurich in different ways are joining forces: Zürcher Kantonalbank, which helps address the canton’s economic, social, and environmental challenges and contributes to its competitiveness and quality of life —and the Technorama, which has been inspiring its guests for more than four decades with phenomena from nature and technology, enabling them to understand the world and themselves—in both senses of the word—through independent discovery and experimentation.

A Substantial Sum of Money as a Gift

Zurich Cantonal Bank’s commitment includes a substantial donation toward the construction project as well as a multi-year sponsorship partnership. ZKB will be designated a major partner of Technorama and will support its development during a critical phase.

«Through our partnership with Technorama, we are addressing key priorities of our mission: education, innovation, social participation, and the strengthening of Zurich as a business and living environment,» says Dr. Jörg Müller-Ganz, Chairman of the ZKB Board of Directors. «The Technorama inspires people to engage with scientific topics through hands-on experiences and creates space for curiosity, discovery, and forward thinking. With this partnership, we are investing in a place that has an impact far beyond Winterthur.»

The contributions will be made subject to full funding and the start of construction within the next three years. Currently, nearly 80 percent of the construction costs are funded by contributions from the public sector, foundations, and individuals, as well as from companies and Technorama’s own funds. The partnership with ZKB is a key pillar of the project. To ensure its completion, Technorama is seeking additional partners who will follow this example.

Together into the Future

The Technorama 2050 future project marks the largest structural and design transformation in the history of Technorama. Between 2028 and 2030, the Swiss Science Center will undergo a comprehensive renovation and expansion to prepare it for future operations through at least 2050. This is not merely about a new building or additional exhibition space. The goal is to reposition Technorama in the long term as one of the most important venues for promoting STEM education and engaging with natural phenomena, and to further develop it for future generations. It does not offer old solutions to old problems, but rather fosters the skills needed to find new solutions to new problems.

The partnership with Zürcher Kantonalbank is intentionally designed to be long-term. «Technorama 2050 is a project for the future—and the future takes shape where people remain curious, ask questions, and seek to understand how things are connected,» says Thorsten-D. Künnemann, director of Technorama. «The fact that Zürcher Kantonalbank is joining us on this journey as our main partner is of great significance to Technorama. This partnership not only provides us with additional stability during a crucial phase of transformation; it also connects us with an institution that, like us, is committed to the long-term development and sustainability of the Canton of Zurich.»
