Over 100,000 participants in the bike to work challenge 2025
The bike to work challenge, an initiative of Pro Velo, once again exceeded the 100,000 participants mark in 2025. In total, around 110,000 people from almost 4,000 companies took part.

With bike to work, the national umbrella organization for cyclists Pro Velo Schweiz runs an annual national campaign to promote cycling in companies. The campaign is supported by the main partners Veloplus, Suva, Panter and myStromer as well as numerous prize sponsors. In addition to SMEs, large national corporations also take part in bike to work every year. There are prizes to be won with a total value of over CHF 140,000. And this seems to be attracting more and more people to the saddle: This year, around 110,000 participants covered a total of 29,180,331 kilometers - more than ever before. That's a distance of 728 times around the world and a new record. In the process, they saved an impressive 4,202 tons of CO₂.
Companies that move
3,931 companies - from small SMEs to large corporations - took part. This year, traditional companies and institutions as well as the État de Genève, the City of Zurich, CERN and Hoffmann-La Roche once again achieved top results - all with over 1,000 participants each. "bike to work is an effective tool for promoting health, sustainability and team spirit within the company - and it's a lot of fun and exercise," explains Barbara Willen, project manager of bike to work.
When Federal Councillors cycle along: Politics sets an example
This year, members of the National Council and Council of States also took part in the bicycle promotion campaign. Among them are representatives of the SP, FDP, Greens and SVP - even Federal Councillor Beat Jans took to the pedals. "Cycling to work is the easiest, healthiest, most natural and fastest way to get to work in the city - good for the environment and a real relief for city traffic," emphasized Jans during a brief media meeting in front of the Federal Palace. Their participation shows that the promotion of cycling begins not only with the population, but also with elected representatives - because they also have the task of setting a good example.
