After four years of continuous growth in the scrap and metals sector, with eight acquisitions in France and Switzerland, Paprec is now taking another step forward and acquiring two companies in the Basel area.

For the first time, the Paprec Group, market leader in recycling in France and a major player in waste recovery and low-emission energy production across Europe, is acquiring two companies specializing exclusively in metal recycling. At the beginning of next year, Paprec France will acquire Alsarec, a company specializing in cable and metal recycling based near Mulhouse. At the same time, Paprec Swiss Group is taking over the renowned Swiss metal trading and recycling company Multimetall.

Specialist in cable recycling

Founded in 1992, Alsarec specializes in cable recycling. «This acquisition will enable us to move further up the metal recycling value chain. It will strengthen our position as a reliable partner for industrial companies looking for competent service providers,» explains David Dias, CEO of Specialized Activities at Paprec. Based in Rosenau in the Haut-Rhin department, the company processes over 11,000 tons of metal annually.

With around 30 specialized sites in France and annual sales of €500 million, Paprec's iron and metal division has become a major player in the industry. It processes one million tons per year. „Our development follows a clear strategy: we invest in high-performance facilities, continuously expand our regional presence, and offer our customers—industrial companies, municipalities, and craft businesses—high-quality, tailor-made services,» David Dias continues.

Paprec Swiss Group continues to focus on diversification

Paprec Swiss Group (PSG), the market leader in the Swiss recycling market, is expanding its range of services with the acquisition of Multimetall, based in Muttenz (canton of Basel-Landschaft). The company processes 11,000 tons of metal-containing secondary raw materials annually. ‘Multimetall's expertise in metal trading and recycling will strengthen our national presence and service portfolio,« says Christophe Gence, CEO of Paprec Swiss Group.

«Metal recycling is of great importance both economically and ecologically. It reduces CO₂ emissions and decreases the need for primary raw material extraction. With this first acquisition of two companies specializing in metal recycling, we are taking a significant step toward the ecological transformation and decarbonization of the economy. At the same time, new market opportunities are opening up in France, Switzerland, and Germany,» adds Mathieu Petithuguenin, Chairman and CEO of Paprec.

Thanks to its excellent conductivity, copper is a key material in the energy transition. Demand is constantly increasing. Recycling millions of kilometers of cable is essential for decarbonizing the economy—without it, modern means of communication such as telephones and the internet would be inconceivable.
