Electra Becomes eMSP: An App for 800,000 Charging Points in Europe
Electra is expanding its offerings and becoming an eMobility Service Provider (eMSP). Starting now, users can access approximately 800,000 charging points across Europe—including over 15,000 in Switzerland—through the Electra app. With transparent pricing and a smart route planner, the company aims to make public charging much easier.

Electra, a European fast-charging pioneer and market leader for fast-charging stations in France and Belgium, is taking a decisive step: Starting June 29, 2026, the company will operate as an eMobility Service Provider (eMSP). This will give the Electra app access to approximately 800,000 charging points across Europe, available through numerous large public charging networks. In Switzerland, there are over 15,000 charging points.
The app is thus evolving from a tool designed solely for charging at Electra stations into a Europe-wide platform for electric mobility. Drivers can find, compare, navigate to, and start the charging process—regardless of whether they’re charging at an Electra station or another public charging point.
«Electric mobility must not be held back by the fact that drivers have to switch between apps, charging cards, and pricing models,» says Alessandro Inderbitzin, General Manager for Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. «With the move to eMSP, we’re making charging much easier throughout Switzerland and Europe: one app, one charging card, no surcharges on the charging price. This is exactly the kind of simplicity the market needs.»
Transparent pricing with no hidden fees
With the launch of eMSP, Electra is prioritizing transparency in its pricing. Users see the price in the app before starting the charging process, and that price remains valid for the entire duration. Electra does not charge any hidden or additional fees for charging sessions on other networks—there is no markup on the charging price. This ensures transparency regarding the cost of the charging session, regardless of which network is used.
In Switzerland in particular, price transparency is a key factor in building trust in public charging infrastructure. In recent months, Electra had already focused on greater clarity by offering transparent app rates, subscription models, and visible pricing information at its stations. The Europe-wide eMSP launch now extends this approach beyond its own network.
A charging card for Europe, Autocharge at Electra stations
Once the right charging station has been selected, the process of getting started on-site should also go as smoothly as possible. Depending on the station, users will be able to start the charging process directly in the Electra app or with the Electra charging card—without having to switch to a different app or create new user accounts with individual operators.
Access is even easier on Electra’s own network: With Autocharge, charging starts automatically as soon as the vehicle is connected to the charging station. After a one-time activation in the app, the station recognizes the vehicle and starts charging without any additional steps. In Switzerland, Electra is expanding its own network to over 45 locations by the end of the year and is already the largest fast-charging provider in the cities of Zurich and Bern.
The App as a Smart Co-Pilot
The Electra app is no longer just a tool for starting a charging session—it’s becoming a platform: a smart co-pilot for every electric drive. At its core is an algorithm that not only displays available charging stations on a map but also actively evaluates them. To do this, the app analyzes charging power, availability, technical reliability, location, and price in real time. The result isn’t just a list, but a concrete answer: the right charging station—not just the closest one. This feature is unique in this form; no other eMSP or charging network operator currently offers it.
This approach is particularly useful on longer trips, during peak hours, or in cities with many charging options. If a charging station is occupied or a better alternative is available nearby, the app immediately suggests a suitable station. Drivers can set their own criteria—such as price, distance, or charging power—and the algorithm adapts accordingly. The route planner integrates charging stops directly into trip planning, whether for everyday use, vacations, or business trips.
This is made possible by technology that Electra develops entirely in-house: from the recommendation algorithm to dynamic load management to the eMSP platform. Each component is designed internally, tested on the live grid, and rolled out across Europe.
«The best charging station isn’t always the one closest to you,» said Inderbitzin. «What matters is whether it’s available, fast, reliable, and reasonably priced. That’s exactly the decision we want to take off users» hands.”
