Agrotec Suisse recently evaluated the results of the 2024 apprentice survey. A total of 285 fourth-year apprentices took part in the survey. To put this into context, a total of 431 apprentices took their final exams in the qualification process that will take place later. This means that 66 % of those completing their final exams in the professions of agricultural machinery, construction machinery and power tool mechanic took part in the survey.<\/p>\n

The apprentices answered questions about how they decided on their apprenticeship, whether the apprenticeship met their expectations and what plans they have after graduation. The results are very positive for the industry and provide valuable insights for the further optimization of training and the recruitment of new apprentices.<\/p>\n

Half remain in the company <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Particularly pleasing is the fact that around half of the apprentices surveyed already knew before completing their apprenticeship that they would continue to work at the training company. This underlines the apprentices' confidence in the sector and their training companies. Only around 17 % stated that they wanted to change their field of work. One reason why many of the young professionals stay with their training company could be that the majority are largely happy with its performance.<\/p>\n

However, these findings are in contrast to the experience of many companies, which have difficulties finding qualified workers. It can therefore be assumed that the migration to other sectors only takes place some time after completion of the apprenticeship.<\/p>\n

Vocational school is \"demanding\" for learners <\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the context of the revision of basic education, it is often said that learners do not (or no longer) meet the requirements. However, the learners themselves assess this somewhat differently: only 6 % rate the teaching at the vocational college as \"too demanding\". The majority consider the teaching to be \"demanding\" (61 %) or \"just right\" (23 %). This indicates that the level of the vocational school is demanding but appropriate. The inter-company courses were rated even more positively. However, half of the respondents would like additional days for these courses.<\/p>\n

Trade fairs still very important for career choice <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Having satisfied apprentices is one thing, filling vacant apprenticeship positions is another. The last few years have shown that the supply of apprenticeships is often greater than the demand due to low birth rates - especially in skilled trades. Agrotec Suisse is in the advantageous position of continuing to record rising apprentice numbers. However, in view of current demographic and social developments, it is also becoming increasingly challenging to find good apprentices in agricultural engineering. It is therefore essential to set the course now for the strong promotion of young talent. One important finding from the survey is that apprentices paid most attention to advertising on social media when choosing a career, followed immediately by careers fairs.<\/p>\n

The interpersonal level is crucial <\/strong><\/h3>\n

As soon as the career choice becomes more concrete, the taster apprenticeship and discussions with family members play a decisive role. A good experience during the trial apprenticeship proves to be particularly important. From the apprentices' point of view, the team is the most important factor in the final choice of training company. This is followed by the company's image and proximity to the place of residence.<\/p>\n

The overall very positive feedback on trainee satisfaction confirms the high quality of the training programs. Agrotec Suisse will emphasize the positive facts in future communication measures and use the new findings to further optimize training conditions and communication with young people.\u00a0<\/p>\n
