From May 1, 2026, it's back to cycling in Switzerland. For one or two months, tens of thousands of people will commute to work as part of the bike to work challenge. Every year, more than 100,000 participants from almost 4,000 companies make the campaign a visible symbol of health, sustainable mobility and team spirit. What began as a simple mobility campaign is now an integral part of modern working cultures. Companies from all sectors use bike to work to integrate exercise into everyday working life and motivate employees in a playful way - uncomplicated, low-threshold and with a big impact.<\/p>\n

Strong example: Destination Gstaad<\/h3>\n

Movement, sustainability and suitability for everyday use go hand in hand in Gstaad. \u00abChange starts with ourselves - and it offers opportunities that we must seize,\u00bb says Patrick Bauer, Head of Destination Development Sustainability. Gstaad demonstrates that sustainable mobility is possible in every region: the \u00abGST Challenge\u00bb organized by Destination Gstaad even extended the bike to work format to the months of March to November. In 2025, 21 of the 45 or so employees took part regularly and together covered 11,726.2 km. Since the start in 2023, they have saved a total of 5.64 tons of CO\u2082.<\/p>\n

Role model: giant slalom icon Mike von Gr\u00fcnigen<\/h3>\n

Mike von Gr\u00fcnigen is now project manager at Gstaad Saanenland Tourism and is responsible for media trips and the \u00abGstaad on Tour\u00bb project. He regularly covers his 9 km commute to work by bike - and thus shows how naturally conscious mobility can work in everyday life. \u00abThe main motivation to take part in bike to work is that I can leave my car at home. This way, I make a small contribution to our CO\u2082 budget, get some exercise and get some fresh air after a day at the office,\u00bb says von Gr\u00fcnigen.<\/p>\n

Get on your bike sustainably - and stay on it<\/h3>\n

Many participants report that the challenge got them back on their bikes in the long term and that exercise became part of their everyday lives again. It's not perfection that counts, but sticking with it: Every kilometer ridden improves well-being and fitness - and at the same time raises awareness of healthy and environmentally friendly mobility. Internal communication plays a key role in ensuring that companies reach as many employees as possible: information via email and flyers, internal motivational campaigns or small, team-internal challenges ensure that cycling becomes visible within the company.<\/p>\n

Over 1,300 prizes worth more than 120,000 francs<\/h3>\n

An important factor in the success of the Challenge is teamwork: in teams of four, people ride together, motivate each other - and sometimes complain about the wind and weather. Those who persevere not only benefit health-wise, but also have the chance to win one of over 1,300 prizes with a total value of more than 120,000 francs. The campaign is supported by the main partners Veloplus, Suva and Stromer as well as numerous prize sponsors.<\/p>\n
