Depuis d\u00e9cembre 2019, l'Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire et des affaires v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires (OSAV) a class\u00e9 tous les produits de d\u00e9gradation (m\u00e9tabolites) du chlorothalonil comme relevant de l'eau potable. Selon le \"SonntagsZeitung\", des r\u00e9sidus de chlorothalonil, un produit phytosanitaire interdit, se retrouvent \u00e9galement dans l'eau potable suisse. Ainsi, de petites quantit\u00e9s de chlorothalonil auraient \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9es dans l'eau min\u00e9rale d'Evian. La concentration est toutefois nettement inf\u00e9rieure aux valeurs limites l\u00e9gales et ne pr\u00e9sente aucun risque pour la sant\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L'eau claire des Alpes malgr\u00e9 tout contamin\u00e9e\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Il fait chaud, l'eau du producteur Evian au bord du lac L\u00e9man provient des Alpes fran\u00e7aises pr\u00e8s de la fronti\u00e8re suisse. Or, des experts de l'Institut f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de recherche sur l'eau (Eawag) ont trouv\u00e9 des r\u00e9sidus du pesticide chlorothalonil dans l'eau min\u00e9rale d'Evian. Ils ont pu d\u00e9celer 6 nanogrammes par litre (source : SonntagsZeitung).<\/p>\n

Cette d\u00e9couverte est n\u00e9anmoins importante, car l'Evian provient directement du c\u0153ur des Alpes et est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme si pure que les scientifiques l'utilisent pour \u00e9talonner leurs appareils de mesure. Un expert en eau a fait part de son inqui\u00e9tude au journal : \"Le fait que m\u00eame les sources d'Evian dans les Alpes fran\u00e7aises, qui ne sont gu\u00e8re influenc\u00e9es par l'homme, pr\u00e9sentent des r\u00e9sidus de pesticides, est inqui\u00e9tant et montre une utilisation beaucoup trop insouciante de ces substances\", a mis en garde Roman Wiget, pr\u00e9sident de l'Association internationale de l'eau potable (AWBR).<\/p>\n

La concentration des r\u00e9sidus trouv\u00e9s dans l'Evian est nettement inf\u00e9rieure \u00e0 la limite l\u00e9gale. Ils ne pr\u00e9sentent donc pas de risque pour la sant\u00e9. La concentration est \"comparable \u00e0 celle de l'eau du lac de Zurich\", affirme Juliane Hollender, co-auteur de l'\u00e9tude de l'Eawag. Roman Wiget souhaite n\u00e9anmoins limiter l'utilisation des produits phytosanitaires. Il demande que seuls les adjuvants de l'agriculture biologique soient utilis\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

M\u00eame si certains d'entre eux ne sont pas sans poser de probl\u00e8mes, ils se d\u00e9gradent tr\u00e8s rapidement selon Wiget - \u00e0 l'exception du cuivre -, ce qui permet de ne pas polluer l'eau potable, explique-t-il \u00e0 la \"SonntagsZeitung\".<\/p>\n

Interdiction g\u00e9n\u00e9rale depuis d\u00e9but 2020\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

L'Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de l'agriculture a autoris\u00e9 l'utilisation du chlorothalonil dans les ann\u00e9es 1970. La substance active \u00e9tait utilis\u00e9e dans les cultures c\u00e9r\u00e9ali\u00e8res, mara\u00eech\u00e8res, viticoles et ornementales contre les attaques fongiques. L'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, la Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration, s'appuyant sur de nouveaux r\u00e9sultats de la recherche, a nouvellement qualifi\u00e9 le chlorothalonil de \"probablement canc\u00e9rig\u00e8ne\" et a interdit son utilisation \u00e0 partir de d\u00e9but 2020.<\/p>\n

En d\u00e9cembre 2019, l'Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire et des affaires v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires (OSAV) avait class\u00e9 tous les produits de d\u00e9gradation (m\u00e9tabolites) du chlorothalonil comme relevant de l'eau potable. Pour ces substances, une valeur maximale de 0,1 microgramme par litre s'applique donc \u00e0 l'eau potable, qui est dans ce cas \u00e9galement valable comme valeur limite pour les eaux souterraines. Cette nouvelle valeur est extr\u00eamement basse. Il s'agit d'une valeur de pr\u00e9caution et non d'une valeur limite toxicologique.<\/p>\n

Chlorothalonil probablement canc\u00e9rig\u00e8ne<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Depuis que la Commission europ\u00e9enne a class\u00e9 le chlorothalonil comme substance probablement canc\u00e9rig\u00e8ne, les choses s'emballent. En effet, des produits de d\u00e9gradation (m\u00e9tabolites) de ce fongicide largement utilis\u00e9 se retrouvent dans les eaux souterraines. Les valeurs mesur\u00e9es jusqu'\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent d\u00e9passent la concentration maximale l\u00e9gale de 0,1 \u00b5g\/L pour les ressources en eau utilis\u00e9es comme eau potable dans de nombreuses stations de mesure.<\/p>\n

Il n'est pas encore prouv\u00e9 que le d\u00e9passement de cette valeur maximale, fix\u00e9e par pr\u00e9caution \u00e0 un niveau bas pour l'eau potable, repr\u00e9sente r\u00e9ellement un risque pour les consommateurs - pour les denr\u00e9es alimentaires, les \"doses journali\u00e8res autoris\u00e9es\", consid\u00e9r\u00e9es comme inoffensives, sont nettement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Pourtant, personne ne veut de r\u00e9sidus de chlorothalonil dans l'eau potable. Comme les substances ne se d\u00e9gradent ou ne s'\u00e9liminent parfois que lentement, les contre-mesures vont au-del\u00e0 de l'interdiction d'utilisation de la substance de base (en vigueur depuis le 1er janvier 2020).<\/p>\n

La dilution de l'eau brute avec de l'eau non pollu\u00e9e ou la (nouvelle) exploitation de sources provenant de bassins versants sans culture en font partie. Des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s techniques de traitement entrent \u00e9galement en ligne de compte comme \"ultima ratio\". En collaboration avec les services des eaux, l'Eawag a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 en laboratoire et dans des installations pilotes quels proc\u00e9d\u00e9s \u00e9taient les plus efficaces contre quelles substances.
