(Image symbolique ; photo : Unsplash.com)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Les investisseurs institutionnels europ\u00e9ens et britanniques accordent une attention accrue aux questions environnementales et sociales, ou ESG (Environmental Social Governance). D\u00e9sormais, 76 % d'entre eux se pr\u00e9occupent des questions ESG et des risques qui y sont li\u00e9s. Si l'environnement reste au centre des pr\u00e9occupations des investisseurs institutionnels, certains d'entre eux commencent \u00e0 mettre l'accent sur des facteurs sociaux (27 %) tels que le capital humain et les droits du travail. Ce sont l\u00e0 quelques-uns des r\u00e9sultats de l'\u00e9tude Mercer European Asset Allocation Insights 2021, qui met en lumi\u00e8re diff\u00e9rentes questions relatives \u00e0 l'allocation d'actifs des institutions de pension europ\u00e9ennes. Les strat\u00e9gies d'investissement dans le secteur des pensions britanniques et europ\u00e9ennes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 examin\u00e9es avec environ 850 investisseurs institutionnels dans onze pays, repr\u00e9sentant un actif total d'environ 1 000 milliards d'euros. Environ la moiti\u00e9 des institutions interrog\u00e9es g\u00e8rent moins de 100 millions de dollars.<\/p>\n<h2>L'investissement durable n'est pas encore une tendance en Suisse<\/h2>\n<p>En comparaison europ\u00e9enne, la Suisse constitue une nette exception : selon l'\u00e9tude, seules 14% des institutions de pr\u00e9voyance ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 pris en compte les risques ESG. De plus, elles se concentrent presque exclusivement sur les facteurs environnementaux. Il faut noter ici que ce sont majoritairement de petites caisses qui ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9tude Mercer (75 pour cent ont une fortune inf\u00e9rieure \u00e0 500 millions de dollars), lesquelles agissent souvent plus lentement sur les th\u00e8mes strat\u00e9giques.<\/p>\n<p>\"L'\u00e9tude montre clairement qu'il y a encore des progr\u00e8s \u00e0 faire en mati\u00e8re d'investissements durables, surtout dans les petites institutions. Ce n'est pas seulement d'un point de vue moral, social et politique que l'ESG devrait devenir un th\u00e8me : Il s'av\u00e8re \u00e9galement que les investissements durables et \u00e0 impact peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre bons pour la couverture des risques du portefeuille et, en fin de compte, pour le rendement\", commente Tobias Wolf, Head Advisory chez Mercer Suisse. \"Toutefois, les petites caisses ne disposent souvent que de ressources insuffisantes pour ce genre de th\u00e8mes strat\u00e9giques. Il est alors important de faire appel \u00e0 un soutien externe, par exemple pour la mise en place d'une strat\u00e9gie ESG globale et l'accompagnement de sa mise en \u0153uvre jusqu'\u00e0 la s\u00e9lection des placements appropri\u00e9s\".<\/p>\n<p>Le nombre d'investisseurs europ\u00e9ens utilisant une indexation \u00e0 faible \u00e9mission de carbone ou li\u00e9e au climat a fortement augment\u00e9 par rapport \u00e0 l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re (26 pour cent contre 6 pour cent). L'\u00e9tude montre qu'une grande majorit\u00e9 des investisseurs int\u00e8grent l'ESG dans tous les aspects de leur activit\u00e9, y compris la s\u00e9lection des gestionnaires d'investissement (83 pour cent), la surveillance des gestionnaires d'investissement (88 pour cent), le reporting (79 pour cent) et l'allocation d'actifs (64 pour cent). L'enqu\u00eate montre \u00e9galement que les investisseurs passent d'une attitude plut\u00f4t r\u00e9active \u00e0 une attitude proactive, avec des facteurs r\u00e9glementaires comme motivation pour<br \/>\nLa prise en compte des risques ESG perd de son importance (67 % l'ont cit\u00e9e comme raison principale, contre 85 % l'ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente). \"Pendant la p\u00e9riode de pand\u00e9mie, qui a repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 un d\u00e9fi majeur pour de nombreux investisseurs, on a assist\u00e9 \u00e0 une forte augmentation des investissements dans les fonds d'investissement durables dans toute l'Europe\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Joanne Holden, Global Head of Investment Research chez Mercer. \"Bien que les questions environnementales restent au centre des pr\u00e9occupations, il est encourageant de voir que de nombreux investisseurs commencent \u00e0 prendre en compte l'impact social de leurs investissements. Les investisseurs prennent conscience de l'interd\u00e9pendance des \u00e9l\u00e9ments au sein du complexe ESG et de la mani\u00e8re dont les hommes et la plan\u00e8te sont li\u00e9s. Et comme la responsabilit\u00e9 des entreprises est en t\u00eate de l'agenda des conseils d'administration, de plus en plus d'entreprises veulent faire leur part pour soutenir des questions telles que les droits de l'homme, la r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration \u00e9quitable et la justice sociale\".<\/p>\n<h2>Les allocations en placements alternatifs augmentent<\/h2>\n<p>De mani\u00e8re plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, l'\u00e9tude Mercer montre que l'allocation aux investissements alternatifs est d\u00e9sormais presque aussi \u00e9lev\u00e9e que celle aux actions, voire plus dans certains cas (Royaume-Uni et Allemagne). L'abandon des actions se poursuit chez les investisseurs britanniques et europ\u00e9ens (de 22 \u00e0 21% d'allocation moyenne dans les<br \/>\nportefeuille global), car ils cherchent \u00e0 diversifier leurs moteurs de rendement, \u00e0 se prot\u00e9ger contre la volatilit\u00e9 des march\u00e9s et \u00e0 acc\u00e9der \u00e0 des flux de rendement prot\u00e9g\u00e9s contre l'inflation. De nombreux investisseurs ax\u00e9s sur la performance cherchent de plus en plus \u00e0 se diversifier dans des classes d'actifs alternatives (de 18 \u00e0 20 %), comme les titres \u00e0 revenu fixe<br \/>\nles investissements de croissance, le private equity et les valeurs r\u00e9elles. En Suisse, la situation est diff\u00e9rente : l'allocation typique aux alternatives n'est que de 7%, alors que les obligations, les actions et l'immobilier continuent de dominer les portefeuilles avec respectivement 33, 31 et 23%. \"Nous continuons de voir un \u00e9norme potentiel pour les investisseurs suisses \u00e0 exploiter les multiples avantages d'une allocation plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e aux alternatives : Meilleure diversification, risques optimis\u00e9s et perspectives de rendement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es \u00e0 long terme, notamment en exploitant les primes d'illiquidit\u00e9 sur les march\u00e9s priv\u00e9s\", explique Matthieu Mougeot, Investment Solutions Leader chez Mercer Suisse. \"Travailler avec un expert et d\u00e9l\u00e9guer les parties du processus d'investissement qui n\u00e9cessitent beaucoup de ressources peut faire la diff\u00e9rence pour les investisseurs dans ce domaine. Non seulement lorsqu'il s'agit d'identifier les bonnes strat\u00e9gies dans un pool mondial, mais aussi pour avoir acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des opportunit\u00e9s int\u00e9ressantes et mettre en \u0153uvre la strat\u00e9gie \u00e0 un niveau \u00e9lev\u00e9\".<\/p>\n<p>En ce qui concerne l'avenir, la majorit\u00e9 des investisseurs (53 %) pr\u00e9voient de tirer les le\u00e7ons de la pand\u00e9mie en r\u00e9visant leur strat\u00e9gie d'investissement, les mandats des gestionnaires ou la gouvernance du plan. Une minorit\u00e9 importante (38 %) n'a toutefois pas l'intention d'apporter des modifications \u00e0 la gouvernance de leur plan en cons\u00e9quence directe des \u00e9v\u00e9nements de l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re.
