Quel pourrait \u00eatre le r\u00e9sultat d'un \u00e9cobilan comparatif pour les confitures ? Les portions individuelles, telles qu'elles sont utilis\u00e9es dans la restauration, sont conditionn\u00e9es soit dans un emballage en aluminium, soit dans un emballage en verre. Quelle variante de confiture s'en sort le mieux d'un point de vue \u00e9cologique ? Les emballages en aluminium sont-ils vraiment aussi nocifs pour l'environnement que leur r\u00e9putation le laisse entendre ?<\/p>\n

Le groupe de recherche sur l'\u00e9cobilan de l'Institut pour l'environnement et les ressources naturelles (IUNR) de la zhaw s'est pench\u00e9 sur cette question et est parvenu \u00e0 la conclusion qu'outre le mat\u00e9riau, la distribution ou le transport jouent \u00e9galement un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif.<\/p>\n

Un produit - plusieurs variantes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hero AG, dont le si\u00e8ge est \u00e0 Lenzbourg, produit plus de 100 sortes de confitures diff\u00e9rentes. Celles-ci sont conditionn\u00e9es dans des emballages de mat\u00e9riaux et de tailles diff\u00e9rents, comme des grands pots ou des portions individuelles. Les portions individuelles sont utilis\u00e9es dans la restauration, par les compagnies a\u00e9riennes et dans le commerce de d\u00e9tail et sont fabriqu\u00e9es soit en aluminium (AluCup) soit en verre (MiniJar).<\/p>\n

Des sp\u00e9cialistes du groupe de recherche sur l'analyse du cycle de vie ont \u00e9valu\u00e9 l'impact environnemental des portions individuelles en verre et en aluminium \u00e0 l'aide d'un \u00e9cobilan, en prenant pour exemple la confiture de fraises.<\/p>\n

Analyse comparative du cycle de vie<\/strong><\/p>\n

L'\u00e9cobilan est une m\u00e9thode standardis\u00e9e qui quantifie l'impact environnemental des produits tout au long de leur cycle de vie. Dans le cas de la confiture de fraises en portions individuelles, celui-ci comprend la fabrication et le remplissage de la confiture, la consommation de mat\u00e9riaux pour l'emballage, la distribution jusqu'au client final ainsi que l'\u00e9limination de l'emballage apr\u00e8s consommation. L'\u00e9valuation a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e \u00e0 l'aide d'un ensemble de diff\u00e9rents indicateurs qui tiennent compte du changement climatique, de la consommation de ressources et des \u00e9missions de polluants.<\/p>\n

Qu'est-ce qui influence l'\u00e9cobilan ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Les confitures conditionn\u00e9es en portions ont de nombreuses cons\u00e9quences n\u00e9gatives sur l'environnement - de l'arrosage des fraises aux \u00e9missions de dioxyde de carbone lors de l'\u00e9limination de l'emballage, en passant par la consommation d'\u00e9nergie lors de la cuisson des confitures et les \u00e9missions de particules dues \u00e0 la combustion de carburants lors de la distribution. L'origine des fraises, le mat\u00e9riau et le poids de l'emballage des portions ainsi que la distance de transport jusqu'au consommateur final sont les principaux facteurs d'influence.<\/p>\n

La taille de l'emballage est d\u00e9cisive<\/strong><\/p>\n

L'impact environnemental des portions individuelles est d'autant plus faible que la taille de la portion est petite, car la quantit\u00e9 d'emballage par pi\u00e8ce est r\u00e9duite. D'autre part, plus le contenu d'une portion individuelle est petit, plus l'impact environnemental par rapport \u00e0 un kilo de confiture augmente. Pour am\u00e9liorer le bilan \u00e9cologique, il est donc essentiel d'optimiser la taille de la portion individuelle en fonction de l'utilisation pr\u00e9vue.<\/p>\n

Si la portion est trop petite, plus d'une portion sera entam\u00e9e et la quantit\u00e9 d'emballage augmentera. En revanche, si la portion est trop grande, cela entra\u00eene des pertes de denr\u00e9es alimentaires.<\/p>\n

Respectueux de l'environnement signifie : emballage l\u00e9ger et consommation locale<\/strong><\/p>\n

Une comparaison des deux types d'emballage montre que les portions de confiture en AluCups ont un impact environnemental 3,5 fois moins important que les portions de confiture en MiniJars. La fabrication des MiniJars en verre est gourmande en \u00e9nergie. De plus, les AluCups sont plus l\u00e9gers que les MiniJars. Pour chaque portion de confiture, les AluCups utilisent moins d'aluminium que le verre utilis\u00e9 pour les MiniJars.<\/p>\n

Le faible poids des AluCups a pour cons\u00e9quence une r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre dans la distribution : plus une marchandise transport\u00e9e est l\u00e9g\u00e8re et plus la distance de transport est courte, plus les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre nuisibles au climat sont faibles.<\/p>\n
