Dans son rapport 2022 qui vient d'\u00eatre publi\u00e9, le Global ESG Monitor (GEM) met en lumi\u00e8re le reporting environnemental, social et de gouvernance de 350 des plus grandes entreprises mondiales. Le GEM est le leader international en mati\u00e8re d'analyse de la transparence du reporting ESG et publie chaque ann\u00e9e un rapport complet qui analyse le reporting extra-financier en Europe, en Am\u00e9rique du Nord, en Asie et en Australie. \"2022 a \u00e9t\u00e9 une ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 l'importance des questions ESG a augment\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re spectaculaire\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Michael Diegelmann, cofondateur du GEM. \"Les crises environnementales et sociales remplissent quotidiennement les journaux t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9s, et les entreprises doivent communiquer clairement sur ce qu'elles font et comment elles g\u00e8rent leurs efforts. Des progr\u00e8s sont certes r\u00e9alis\u00e9s, mais au bout du compte, trop de grandes multinationales sont encore insuffisantes en mati\u00e8re de rapports ESG. Cela ne restera pas cach\u00e9 aux investisseurs et au public\".<\/p>\r\n

Focus sur le reporting ESG mondial<\/h3>\r\n

Pour le GEM 2022, 625 rapports ESG de 350 entreprises repr\u00e9sent\u00e9es dans des indices de dix grandes places boursi\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 analys\u00e9s. Des rapports complets sur les diff\u00e9rentes r\u00e9gions seront publi\u00e9s au cours des prochaines semaines. Fin novembre, le rapport GEM global a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9, couvrant les quatre principaux indices boursiers continentaux d'Europe, des \u00c9tats-Unis, d'Asie et d'Australie, tels que l'EuroSTOXX), le S&P 50 ou l'ASX 50 (Australie).<\/p>\r\n

Seules quelques entreprises se sont approch\u00e9es de la note maximale de 100 sur l'\u00e9chelle d'\u00e9valuation dite de la \"qualit\u00e9\". Essai GEM<\/em>le mod\u00e8le d'analyse d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 en interne par le Global ESG Monitor. Le score le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 au monde pour la transparence des rapports non financiers \u00e9tait de 90, le plus bas de 7 points. Le GEM Assay analyse les rapports ESG des entreprises sur la base de 184 crit\u00e8res. Les rapports ESG sont utilis\u00e9s de diverses mani\u00e8res, notamment comme facteur pour les scores ESG des agences de notation, qui sont utilis\u00e9s par les investisseurs pour guider leurs d\u00e9cisions d'investissement.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Si l'on compare la transparence du reporting ESG sur les diff\u00e9rents continents, la note moyenne des entreprises en Europe est de 66 sur 100, suivie de 56 points en Asie et de 53 points respectivement aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en Australie.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Les entreprises europ\u00e9ennes en t\u00eate<\/h3>\r\n

\"Il n'est pas surprenant que le GEM constate de si grandes diff\u00e9rences dans la transparence du reporting selon les pays et les r\u00e9gions. Il n'existe toujours pas de norme uniforme et internationalement reconnue en mati\u00e8re de reporting ESG, ce qui pose des d\u00e9fis aux entreprises\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Ariane Hofstetter, cofondatrice et directrice de la recherche et de la science des donn\u00e9es du GEM. \"M\u00eame si des outils d'analyse importants comme l'analyse de mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 sont largement r\u00e9pandus, le r\u00e9sultat est souvent assombri par un enjolivement et un faible degr\u00e9 de tra\u00e7abilit\u00e9 et d'engagement\".<\/p>\r\n

L'\u00e9tude montre clairement que les entreprises europ\u00e9ennes donnent le tempo au niveau mondial en mati\u00e8re de transparence ESG ; ainsi, huit des dix meilleures entreprises sont europ\u00e9ennes et deux asiatiques. L'entreprise ayant obtenu le score total le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9, et donc le rapport ESG le plus transparent, est l'entreprise \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique italienne Enel SpA.<\/p>\r\n

Les principales lacunes dans le reporting ESG<\/h3>\r\n

Le GEM constate des lacunes dans le reporting ESG dans diff\u00e9rents domaines. Il s'agit notamment de la diversit\u00e9 des sexes au sein des conseils d'administration et de surveillance. Il s'est av\u00e9r\u00e9 que c'est aux \u00c9tats-Unis que l'on trouve la plus grande diversit\u00e9 entre les sexes. L\u00e0-bas, 90% des entreprises ont des conseils d'administration mixtes. C'est en Europe que la proportion moyenne de femmes et d'hommes dans les organes de direction est la plus \u00e9quilibr\u00e9e, avec 50 pour cent dans les deux cas, alors qu'aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en Australie, par exemple, seul un tiers des membres des conseils d'administration sont des femmes.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Les objectifs climatiques sont \u00e9galement diversement atteints par les entreprises mondiales : certes, de nombreuses entreprises analys\u00e9es par le GEM se sont pench\u00e9es sur les \u00e9missions de CO2. Mais seul un nombre limit\u00e9 d'entreprises analys\u00e9es sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 neutres en carbone. La plupart des entreprises se sont fix\u00e9 des objectifs de neutralit\u00e9 carbone et visent \u00e0 atteindre le z\u00e9ro net \u00e0 l'avenir. La plus grande proportion d'entreprises qui pr\u00e9tendent \u00eatre neutres en carbone se trouve parmi les S&P 50 en Asie, la plus faible en Europe.<\/p>\r\n

D'autres domaines probl\u00e9matiques sont \u00e9valu\u00e9s diff\u00e9remment dans le monde entier : De nombreux rapports ESG laissent encore les cha\u00eenes d'approvisionnement dans l'ombre. En Europe, un peu plus de la moiti\u00e9 des entreprises publient au moins l'emplacement g\u00e9ographique de leurs fournisseurs, en Asie, aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en Australie, c'est parfois le cas de moins d'un tiers des entreprises cot\u00e9es en bourse. Et les d\u00e9clarations sur le travail des enfants et le travail forc\u00e9 soul\u00e8vent toujours des questions. Alors que 72 % des entreprises de l'EuroSTOXX divulguent le risque de travail des enfants, de travail forc\u00e9 ou obligatoire dans leurs rapports ESG, seules 54 % des \u00c9tats-Unis, 51 % d'Asie et 36 % d'Australie le font. Et ce n'est pas tout : en Europe, 60 % des entreprises publient des strat\u00e9gies visant \u00e0 \u00e9liminer le travail forc\u00e9, le travail des enfants et d'autres formes d'exploitation. Aux \u00c9tats-Unis (27 %), en Asie (27 %) et en Australie (26 %), c'est moins d'un tiers dans chaque cas.<\/p>\r\n

Absence de normes internationales en mati\u00e8re de reporting ESG<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

Selon le GEM 2022, 96 % des entreprises de l'\u00e9chantillon mondial font r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 des cadres et des normes dans leurs rapports, avec une moyenne de 9,1 cadres mentionn\u00e9s. Dans l'EuroSTOXX, 12,3 r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiels sont mentionn\u00e9s en moyenne. Certaines entreprises accordent trop d'importance aux r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiels et publient des rapports s\u00e9par\u00e9s, sp\u00e9cialement con\u00e7us pour des normes individuelles. Il est difficile pour les investisseurs et les autres parties prenantes de s'y retrouver, et les entreprises risquent de choisir les cadres dont les exigences leur sont les plus favorables.<\/p>\r\n

De m\u00eame, les examens finaux ne sont pas encore obligatoires ou habituels. De tels audits devraient en principe favoriser la confiance et la fiabilit\u00e9. Mais seules 68 % des entreprises fournissent volontairement une assurance de leurs donn\u00e9es par un audit. Un audit avec une assurance limit\u00e9e est encore le plus fr\u00e9quent (88 des 353 rapports audit\u00e9s indiquent le niveau d'assurance).<\/p>\r\n

Les entreprises europ\u00e9ennes se pr\u00e9parent de plus en plus \u00e0 un audit externe. Avec sa proposition de loi relative \u00e0 la directive sur les rapports de durabilit\u00e9 (CSRD), la Commission europ\u00e9enne introduit dans toute l'UE une obligation selon laquelle les informations sur la durabilit\u00e9 doivent \u00eatre v\u00e9rifi\u00e9es avec une assurance limit\u00e9e. A terme, cette obligation devrait se transformer en une obligation de contr\u00f4le avec une assurance raisonnable.<\/p>\r\n
