(Image : Unsplash)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Comme le rapporte aujourd'hui la radio et la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision suisse SRF dans un reportage, l'Eawag, l'institut de recherche sur l'eau du domaine des EPF, analyse lui aussi les eaux us\u00e9es depuis le premier jour de la diffusion du Sars-VoV-2 en vue de d\u00e9velopper un syst\u00e8me d'alerte pr\u00e9coce :<\/p>\n<p>Le 24 f\u00e9vrier, on apprenait qu'au Tessin, la premi\u00e8re personne avait \u00e9t\u00e9 victime d'une infection par le nouveau coronavirus. Le m\u00eame jour, l'\u00e9quipe de chercheurs dirig\u00e9e par Christoph Ort a commenc\u00e9 son travail. Depuis, les neuf plus grandes stations d'\u00e9puration du Tessin ont pr\u00e9lev\u00e9 chaque jour un \u00e9chantillon d'eau d'un litre, explique l'ing\u00e9nieur en environnement de l'Eawag. \"Maintenant, plus de 300 \u00e9chantillons sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 stock\u00e9s dans nos chambres froides\".<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs suisses sont persuad\u00e9s qu'il sera possible non seulement de d\u00e9tecter le virus dans l'eau, mais aussi de le quantifier. Dans l'id\u00e9al, il serait possible d'estimer en 2020 le nombre de personnes infect\u00e9es par le Sras-CoV-2. Mais il faudrait pour cela un syst\u00e8me de mesure officiel \u00e0 l'\u00e9chelle de la Suisse. Selon l'Eawag, un syst\u00e8me d'alerte pr\u00e9coce du Sras-CoV-2 n\u00e9cessiterait un r\u00e9seau de 19 grandes stations d'\u00e9puration r\u00e9parties dans toute la Suisse.<\/p>\n<p>On obtiendrait ainsi des informations sur les excr\u00e9tions de 2,5 millions de personnes en Suisse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comment le virus se retrouve-t-il dans les eaux us\u00e9es ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Une personne infect\u00e9e excr\u00e8te le virus dans ses selles. La propagation rapide du virus devrait donc \u00e9galement augmenter sa quantit\u00e9 dans les \u00e9gouts. Il est toutefois peu probable que les eaux us\u00e9es deviennent une voie de transmission importante de la maladie, expliquent le microbiologiste Gertjan Medema et ses coll\u00e8gues de l'Institut de recherche sur l'eau KWR \u00e0 Nieuwegein au magazine \u00e9conomique <a href=\"\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-03-31\/coronavirus-in-sewage-portended-covid-19-outbreak-in-dutch-city\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La surveillance des eaux us\u00e9es est-elle possible en tant que syst\u00e8me d'alerte pr\u00e9coce ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\"Il est important de recueillir des informations sur l'apparition et la persistance de ce nouveau virus dans les eaux us\u00e9es afin de comprendre s'il n'y a pas de risque pour les travailleurs des eaux us\u00e9es, mais aussi pour d\u00e9terminer si la surveillance des eaux us\u00e9es pourrait \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e pour surveiller la circulation du Sras-CoV-2 dans nos communaut\u00e9s\", a en outre d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Medema dans un rapport publi\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Et d'ajouter : \"Cela pourrait compl\u00e9ter la surveillance clinique actuelle, qui se limite aux patients Covid-19 pr\u00e9sentant les sympt\u00f4mes les plus graves\". Les chercheurs soup\u00e7onnent en effet depuis longtemps que le nombre de personnes infect\u00e9es par le coronavirus qui ne sont pas diagnostiqu\u00e9es est bien plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 que ce que l'on peut confirmer par des tests.<\/p>\n<p>Le rapport des chercheurs n\u00e9erlandais est le premier sur la d\u00e9tection du Sars-CoV-2 dans les eaux us\u00e9es, ont-ils ajout\u00e9. Mais la surveillance des eaux us\u00e9es fonctionne d\u00e9j\u00e0 pour la surveillance d'autres virus comme le poliovirus. Les eaux us\u00e9es peuvent ainsi servir de syst\u00e8me d'alerte pr\u00e9coce pour l'apparition et la r\u00e9apparition du coronavirus dans les villes, ont expliqu\u00e9 les scientifiques.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u00e9j\u00e0 des tests rapides d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Des scientifiques anglais et chinois ont \u00e9galement tir\u00e9 profit de cette d\u00e9couverte. Ils ont en effet mis au point un test rapide permettant de d\u00e9tecter les coronavirus dans les eaux us\u00e9es.
