Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9e \u00e0 Thika et Chuka au Kenya depuis 2007 avec des partenaires locaux.<\/p>\n<p>Elle contredit le mythe selon lequel l'agriculture biologique n\u00e9cessite des surfaces cultiv\u00e9es plus importantes pour des rendements comparables. Au bout de cinq ans, les agriculteurs biologiques obtiennent des rendements plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des co\u00fbts de production plus faibles et \u00e0 des prix de march\u00e9 plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s pour les produits agricoles issus de l'agriculture biologique, qui peuvent \u00eatre chiffr\u00e9s \u00e0 53 % apr\u00e8s la sixi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Un autre facteur important explor\u00e9 par l'\u00e9tude est l'am\u00e9lioration de la fertilit\u00e9 des sols dans l'agriculture biologique. Comme l'agriculture biologique n'utilise pas de produits chimiques et ne produit donc pas de r\u00e9sidus nocifs, elle a un effet b\u00e9n\u00e9fique sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes naturels et sur la sant\u00e9 de la population.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comparaison \u00e0 long terme<\/strong><br \/>\nDans des \u00e9tudes parall\u00e8les sur la culture du coton en Inde et la production de cacao en Bolivie, l'approche biologique a donn\u00e9 des r\u00e9sultats tout aussi positifs. La comparaison \u00e0 long terme des syst\u00e8mes de culture sous les tropiques (Systems Comparison in the Tropics, SysCom) vise \u00e0 fournir des preuves scientifiques des avantages et des inconv\u00e9nients des syst\u00e8mes agricoles biologiques ou conventionnels. L'objectif de SysCom est de soutenir le d\u00e9veloppement de politiques et de strat\u00e9gies visant \u00e0 encourager l'adoption de pratiques durables d'utilisation des terres aux niveaux local, r\u00e9gional et international.<\/p>\n<p>L'\u00e9tude montre que l'approche biologique est une strat\u00e9gie pertinente dans les r\u00e9gions tropicales, dont les principaux d\u00e9fis sont la diffusion des connaissances n\u00e9cessaires et la formation des agriculteurs biologiques. Les bailleurs de fonds de l'\u00e9tude \u00e0 long terme au Kenya sont Biovision, la Direction suisse du d\u00e9veloppement et de la coop\u00e9ration, le Service liechtensteinois de d\u00e9veloppement et le Fonds Coop pour le d\u00e9veloppement durable.<\/p>\n<p>En plus de l'\u00e9tude \u00e0 long terme, qui se poursuivra au moins jusqu'en 2019, la recherche dans les fermes, avec la participation des agriculteurs, vise \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper et \u00e0 promouvoir des pratiques d'agriculture durable adapt\u00e9es aux conditions locales.
