Les mod\u00e8les climatiques montrent que la surface de la glace peut se briser m\u00eame en cas d'augmentation relativement faible de la temp\u00e9rature globale. Si elle se dissout compl\u00e8tement, le niveau global des mers s'\u00e9l\u00e8vera de trois m\u00e8tres ou plus. Jusqu'\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, les chercheurs pensaient toutefois que ces effets ne se produiraient que dans des centaines, voire des milliers d'ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Comme les <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/03\/31\/science\/global-warming-antarctica-ice-sheet-sea-level-rise.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;clickSource=story-heading&amp;module=second-column-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/03\/31\/science\/global-warming-antarctica-ice-sheet-sea-level-rise.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;clickSource=story-heading&amp;module=second-column-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news&amp;_r=0\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Times<\/a> cela pourrait se produire bien plus t\u00f4t : Des chercheurs d'une <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v531\/n7596\/full\/nature17145.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v531\/n7596\/full\/nature17145.html\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00c9tude<\/a>Une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e dans la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre revue scientifique Nature a conclu que le bouclier se d\u00e9gradera en quelques d\u00e9cennies seulement si les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre se poursuivent au rythme actuel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Augmentation d'un m\u00e8tre<\/strong><br \/>\nSelon les chercheurs, d'ici 2100, le niveau de la mer pourrait d\u00e9j\u00e0 s'\u00e9lever d'un m\u00e8tre, avec des cons\u00e9quences catastrophiques. C'est environ le double de ce qu'indique le sc\u00e9nario le plus pessimiste des Nations unies \u00e0 ce jour.<\/p>\n<p>Selon les calculs climatiques, la situation sera encore pire par la suite : tous les dix ans, le niveau de la mer devrait s'\u00e9lever d'environ 30 cm, jusqu'\u00e0 ce qu'il se situe \u00e0 environ 4 m\u00e8tres au-dessus du niveau actuel.
