(Immagine: zVg)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Le alghe da costruzione, o tecnicamente corretto cianobatteri, sono organismi adattabili. Appartengono al livello pi\u00f9 basso della rete alimentare del lago. Circa 100 anni fa, ogni lago aveva la sua variet\u00e0 caratteristica. Uno studio pubblicato oggi da ricercatori svizzeri e francesi sulla rivista Nature - Ecology and Evolution mostra ora che queste differenze stanno diventando sempre pi\u00f9 piccole da lago a lago - dal lago di Costanza al lago di Ginevra, dal lago Hallwil al lago Maggiore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carote di sedimento da 10 laghi<\/strong><br \/>\nGli scienziati hanno preso carote di sedimento da 10 laghi, hanno analizzato il materiale genetico (DNA) delle alghe blu-verdi nei depositi databili degli ultimi 100 anni e hanno valutato statisticamente i dati. In questo modo, sono stati in grado di seguire come il numero di \"specie\" geneticamente differenziabili \u00e8 aumentato in alcuni laghi, ma la composizione in tutti i laghi sta diventando sempre pi\u00f9 uniforme. La proporzione di specie rare e di gruppi di specie che si trovano solo in alcuni laghi \u00e8 diminuita dal 1950, mentre la proporzione di specie comuni \u00e8 quadruplicata.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cambiamento climatico e fertilizzazione eccessiva come ragioni principali<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lo studio rivela due ragioni principali per questa tendenza: l'aumento delle temperature e l'eccessiva fertilizzazione di molti laghi negli anni '60 e '70. Le temperature pi\u00f9 alte portano a fasi pi\u00f9 lunghe in cui i laghi non sono mescolati perch\u00e9 l'acqua superficiale calda e pi\u00f9 leggera non affonda nelle profondit\u00e0. Nel lago di Zurigo, per esempio, l'alga sanguigna di Borgogna Planktothrix rubescens ne ha beneficiato. Non \u00e8 popolare tra i fornitori di acqua perch\u00e9 pu\u00f2 formare tappeti di alghe rosse - da cui il nome - ed \u00e8 potenzialmente tossico. \"In generale, le specie che sembrano essere tra i beneficiari sono quelle che influenzano attivamente la loro posizione verticale nel lago e possono anche vivere con meno luce\", dice Marie-Eve Monchamp, autrice principale dello studio, \"ed \u00e8 proprio tra queste specie che molte sono tossiche\". Oltre all'alga sanguigna di Borgogna, ci sono anche le specie Microcystis e la specie invasiva Dolichospermum lemmermannii. Quest'ultimo era precedentemente conosciuto soprattutto nei laghi a nord delle Alpi, ma ora si sta diffondendo al sud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quasi nessuna inversione di tendenza nonostante i cambiamenti ambientali<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00c8 interessante che la tendenza all'uniformit\u00e0 continui nonostante il declino degli alti livelli di fosforo dalla met\u00e0 degli anni 70. Gli autori attribuiscono questo, tra l'altro, al fatto che le condizioni ambientali generalmente variano sempre meno da lago a lago.
