(Immagine: Amnesty International)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Il cobalto, insieme al litio e ad altri metalli, \u00e8 un ingrediente dei catodi nelle celle delle batterie pi\u00f9 comunemente usate (per esempio NMC, NCA). Senza di essa, le batterie non avrebbero le prestazioni che conosciamo.<\/p>\n<p>Tuttavia, il cobalto scarseggia ed \u00e8 concentrato principalmente in un paese (a 60%), la Repubblica Democratica del Congo, lo stato di crisi per eccellenza, dove prevalgono l'insicurezza politica, la violenza, lo sfruttamento e la corruzione. Inoltre, la lavorazione dei minerali avviene principalmente in Cina, di gran lunga il pi\u00f9 grande produttore di cobalto per le batterie. Tutto ci\u00f2 rende il cobalto molto costoso e spiega l'imprevedibilit\u00e0 del suo prezzo. Si prevede che la domanda di cobalto raddoppier\u00e0 entro il 2025, quindi la capacit\u00e0 di fornitura dovr\u00e0 essere aumentata per soddisfare la crescita della domanda. Le alternative di azione: trovare un sostituto, usare meno cobalto, esplorare metodi di riciclaggio.<\/p>\n<p>Parte del cobalto estratto in Congo proviene da miniere illegali su piccola scala, caratterizzate da violazioni dei diritti umani, lavoro minorile e inquinamento ambientale. Nelle miniere artigianali vengono sfruttati i bambini, circa 40.000, e le condizioni di lavoro sono disastrose: la materia prima viene estratta a mano, senza alcun abbigliamento protettivo con evidenti effetti sulla salute (vedi rapporto di <a href=\"\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/afr62\/3183\/2016\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amnesty International e African Resources Watch<\/a>). Naturalmente, non si pu\u00f2 dire che il mercato delle batterie sia basato solo sul lavoro minorile. Ma se anche solo una frazione del cobalto proviene dall'estrazione artigianale in Congo (circa 20%) e oggi 30% della produzione mondiale \u00e8 per le batterie, c'\u00e8 il rischio che circa 3% del cobalto in una batteria sia sporco.<\/p>\n<p>Poich\u00e9 sembra improbabile che il governo locale elimini il problema dello sfruttamento, gli OEM o le case automobilistiche devono tagliare attivamente la materia prima sporca dalla loro catena di approvvigionamento.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Risultato del sondaggio (106 partecipanti)<\/h3>\n<p><em>Amnesty International ha proposto l'introduzione di un certificato che attesti le modalit\u00e0 di estrazione del cobalto.
