Annual review of the apprenticeship market in 2025

A review of the apprenticeship market in 2025 makes it clear that young people are still actively looking for apprenticeships. From August to December 2025, 149,831 online applications were submitted via yousty.ch. However, there are still plenty of apprenticeships available for summer 2026, especially in retail, commercial administration, and as a healthcare specialist EFZ.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 93,000 young people have been in their final year of compulsory schooling since the summer holidays and are in the middle of the application process for an apprenticeship.

Number of online applications and open apprenticeship positions

Since the summer holidays, many young people have been actively searching for apprenticeships. Between August and December 2025, 149,831 online applications were submitted via the vocational training portal yousty.ch. Most applications were submitted for the professions of commercial clerk EFZ, logistics specialist EFZ (new in the top 3), and retail specialist EFZ (new in the top 3). This pushed the professions of IT specialist EFZ and pharmacy specialist EFZ out of last year's top 3.

These figures clearly show that there are still many apprenticeship vacancies in various occupations and industries for the 2026 intake. Experience shows that many apprenticeships are yet to be advertised, i.e. they will only be advertised for the first time in the new year.

Another fact

The most sought-after apprenticeships (apprenticeships with fewer than 25 apprenticeship profiles were not included) on yousty.ch (application clicks per apprenticeship) from August to December were for interactive media designers EFZ, with an average of 122 application clicks per apprenticeship. This was followed by apprenticeships for mediamaticians EFZ with 116 and apprenticeships for graphic designers with 94 application clicks per apprenticeship.
