Why modern leadership increasingly fails under pressure

Today, leadership often only works externally. Strategies are in place, processes are running, communication appears professional. And yet many leaders lose precisely what would be crucial under pressure: inner clarity.

This topic has now been brought to the stage at the International Speaker Slam in Mastershausen (DE) - and received an award. Speaker Andreas Gruber, who lives in Switzerland, received the Excellence Award for his contribution. The competition brought together around 120 participants from 18 countries and was broadcast live in over 150 countries. The challenge: to get to the heart of a message in just a few minutes so that it makes an impact - without presentation, without aids.

Change of perspective necessary

Gruber spoke about a development that has long been noticeable in many companies: leadership is increasingly becoming a reaction to complexity, pressure and permanent change. «What use is the best strategy if leadership is just a reaction?» said Gruber on stage. His central thesis: modern leadership does not fail because of knowledge or methods - but because people lose access to clarity, orientation and their own decision-making ability under pressure. Many managers continue to function on the outside while they have long been in reaction mode on the inside. Decisions become more short-term, uncertainty increases and their own effectiveness decreases.

Gruber therefore advocates a change of perspective: leadership does not begin with target agreements or communication, but rather where a person remains able to lead themselves under pressure. «Companies invest a lot in strategies, tools and processes. What is often missing is the ability to remain clear and make conscious decisions even under pressure.»

Own coaching model developed

Gruber uses the Ergoarchipel® model he developed for his work. It combines systemic coaching with a clear structure for self-management in complex situations. The aim is to create orientation - not only on the outside, but above all on the inside. The award at the Speaker Slam is therefore more than just a personal success for Gruber: it shows that a topic that many companies have previously underestimated is gaining in importance.

In addition to the award at the Speaker Slam, Gruber has already been honored at the Founder Summit 2026 in Wiesbaden (DE). His next international appearance has also been confirmed: on August 22, 2026, he will be speaking at the International Congress of Experts in New York (US). He also wrote the article published in issue 3-4/2026 of ORGANISATOR «Permanent adaptation instead of permanent stress».
