The robotics startup Binabik AI has opened its new Swiss location at Technopark Winterthur. The move was supported jointly by the Greater Zurich Area (GZA) and House of Winterthur and underlines the attractiveness of the location for technology-oriented companies.

Proximity to the ZHAW as a decisive factor

With the opening of the site in Technopark Winterthur, Binabik AI is focusing on an environment with a high level of technological expertise and proximity to research institutions. The proximity to the ZHAW and access to the Zurich technology ecosystem were decisive factors in the choice of location. The location was the result of close cooperation between the GZA and House of Winterthur, which supported the company in entering the region.

«The establishment of Binabik AI underlines Winterthur's growing importance in the field of AI and robotics,» says Jakob Bächtold, Managing Director and Head of Business at House of Winterthur. «The combination of ZHAW, Technopark and an active startup ecosystem creates an environment in which deep tech companies can not only arrive, but also grow,» says Bächtold.

Autonomous software platform for robots

Binabik AI is developing an «agentic brain» for humanoid robots - a software platform that enables robotic systems to act autonomously and flexibly. The software enables robots to act situationally, interact with humans and complete tasks without the need for retraining. The team led by CEO Jorge Peña Queralta works at the interface of robotics, AI research and industrial applications.

«Winterthur offers the ideal combination of industrial tradition and technological innovation,» says Jorge Peña Queralta. The aim of Binabik is to proactively tackle the shortage of skilled workers in logistics and production and relieve the pressure on existing teams. The Binabik robots take over repetitive tasks such as sorting or loading trolleys so that employees can concentrate on more demanding activities.

Growth plans at the new location

The five-strong team is set to grow to 15 people next year - with a focus on expertise in robotics development and business development.
